kolkata: contrary to recent reports that the purulia arms drop mastermind has been sighted in sudan, intelligence sources claim that neils christian nielsen, alias kim palgrave davy, is sitting pretty in copenhagen. “we have sent a ‘red corner’ notice to copenhagen. denmark being a member of the interpol, we expect them to trace and detain davy, alias nielsen, and inform us.
we expect this to happen soon, said purulia investigating officer and dig-cbi lokenath behera. a documentary beamed over danish television/2 on march 18 corroborates this theory. it also refutes claims made earlier that nielsen had undergone corrective plastic surgery to change his appearance. the documentary shows he is not the least concerned about being nabbed despite the red corner notice. the 45-minute-long documentary in danish, on the run, and directed by thomas heurlin, will be shown at the press club in kolkata on april 25 by legal activist deepak prahladka. nielsen appeared to be in no discomfort despite being a fugitive. the film shows the purulia mastermind going for a drive with a friend, visiting the bank and department stores, railway stations and going through his daily routine of yoga. he has been introduced as a money launderer who also has interest in forging $ 100 bills. in the documentary, nielsen has spoken about ananda marg, a cult he believes in. he talks about the burning of the margis on kolkata’s bijon setu in 1982 and argues that the margi philosophy will one day spread throughout the world. british arms dealer peter bleach, spending a life term in kolkata’s presidency correctional home, also appears in the documentary briefly, describing nielsen as a “dangerous terrorist who has found a safe haven in copenhagen. bleach also says nielsen never told him about the eventual destination of the arms. “he always kept it a secret, bleach tells his interviewers. behera, who appears in the documentary, feels nielsen was more than a money-launderer – he had a political ideology and felt that whatever he was doing was for the betterment of others. it also comes across that nielsen was being kept under surveillance by law enforcing agencies throughout the world. behera reveals nielsen was traced six times; each time he got away at the last moment. interpol special agent scot tripp says nielsen had entered the us at least four times in the last 18 months and that he had at least 46 identities.
